Dentures Q & A

What are dentures?

Dentures are a strip of teeth that are designed to replace missing teeth on the top or bottom of your jawline. Dentures are great for those that are missing some or mostly all their teeth. Dr. Barden crafts the denture to closely mimic the look and texture of your natural teeth so there will only be a small change in how you look.

Over the past decade, dentures have drastically changed. There have been many advancements in technology that give dentures a completely natural look. They can be shaped and molded to fit your jaw and face, improving your smile.

Dentures are more than just a makeover for your smile. Dr. Barden can craft dentures in a way that support your cheeks, lips, and face, giving you a better-looking, well-rounded look.

Are there different types of dentures?

Yes. There are three primary forms of dentures, and each varies in the way they are placed into your mouth.

Conventional Complete Dentures

These dentures are some of the most common. With this form, Dr. Barden removes all of the teeth in your mouth and takes a mold. This mold will be used to create the most comfortable fitting dentures for your specific mouth. The dentures rest against the base of your gums. In some forms, dentures are made to stay in place on their own, and with others, a small amount of specialized glue can be used to secure the denture into place. Before you can use your dentures, the gums where the teeth were extracted need to heal completely. This can take several months.

Implant-Supported Complete Dentures

Dental implants are commonly used to replace a specific tooth, but in this case, similar implants are inserted into the gums that act as an anchor for the dentures. This keeps the dentures in place without the use of glue. Dr. Barden specializes in DENTCA™ dentures that leverage 3D printing to create this form of dentures quickly and more accurately.

Immediate Dentures

Similarly to conventional dentures, immediate dentures are removable. Rather than extracting all of the teeth before the creation of the molds, immediate dentures are made without the need for extraction. The dentures are created right away so you can wear them immediately after Dr. Barden extracts the remaining teeth.

What are DENTCA dentures?

Dr. Barden specializes in DENTCA dentures. These technologically advanced dentures are made using 3D printing. DENTCA provides increased accuracy, creates more comfortable dentures for patients, and allows you to complete a full denture case 2.5x faster. These dentures are available in the three forms of treatment listed above, so you can create the smile you desire in the best way for your lifestyle.

How do I care for my dentures?

Caring for your dentures is crucial for the longevity of their lifespan. Thankfully, care is simple. A few essential care tips to note are:

  • Let your dentures soak in water to prevent from warping
  • Use a soft bristle brush to clean dentures without scratching
  • If you use adhesives, you will need special cleansers to remove all residue from the surface
  • Use a non-abrasive paste to clean dentures

Dr. Barden will walk you through how to care for and clean your dentures when they are created and fitted in your mouth. If you have any questions throughout your use, don’t hesitate to reach out to Inspiring Smiles.
