Tooth-colored Fillings

What Are Tooth-Colored Fillings?

In the past, dentists commonly treated cavities using a metal filling. Today, at Inspiring Smiles, we use tooth-colored fillings, or commonly known as composite fillings, on our patients. These fillings are made of a permanent resin that is bonded to your teeth for a stronger and more natural-looking effect. Tooth-colored fillings are typically used on either the front or back teeth. They are an excellent option for patients who want their fillings to look more natural. Tooth-colored fillings are now used more than gold fillings because most patients want a whiter, brighter smile that would blend with the color of their natural teeth.

How Are Tooth-Colored Fillings Placed?

Fillings are used to repair a tooth that is either decayed, cracked, or fractured and fixed during one appointment. Once the tooth is numb, the doctor will remove as much decay as needed. The decayed area will be cleaned and prepared before the new filling. If the decay is near the nerve, a special medication will be applied for added protection. The composite filling will then be set, shaped, and polished, restoring your tooth to its original shape and function. It’s okay to feel some form of sensitivity to hot and cold foods in the beginning when the filling is first placed. This sensation will subside once your tooth becomes accustomed to the new filling. At the end of the procedure, Inspiring Smiles staff provides each patient with instructions on caring for their new filling before they leave the office.

The Advantages of Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-colored fillings are an excellent alternative to metal fillings because they are more attractive and naturally fit in with the rest of your teeth. They are a healthy choice because they are composed of biocompatible material. Finally, tooth-colored fillings are at a low risk of side effects, and most patients will not experience any allergic reaction to them.

How to Maintain Your Tooth-Colored Fillings

Just like your regular teeth, it is recommended you brush and floss them daily. It is also advisable you continue with your regular dental exams at Inspiring Smiles. If you take care of your tooth-colored fillings, they will continue to retain an attractive appearance and enhance your overall health for years to come.

If you haven’t had a dental exam in over six months, give our office at Inspiring Smiles, in Cumming, GA a call at (770) 824-8673.

Our Happy Patients

"Great first time experience! I took my 9 year old to have his teeth clean and as a new patient to the practice. My baby was super comfortable with everyone and happy. The staff was great and even GREATER Ms. Karen, Dr. Barden and especially Dr. Birch!! I truly recommend Inspiring Smiles! Thank you for explaining his situation. Not only to us as parents but taking the time to explain to my son and giving him great advice about his teeth, and reassuring us that everything will be just fine!"

"My experience at Inspiring Smiles was amazing. My dental assistant Brittney was awesome. I have a horrible phobia of the dentist. My blood pressure was at stroke level there due to my fears; however, Brittney help ease my fear. She treated me like a individual and not just another patient sitting in the chair. She talked thoroughly with me about what to expect. I will continue to come to this dentist and I will refer others to come. Thanks Brittney for for your true compassion. It really shows in your work."
