Fluoride Applications

Besides fluoride treatments, at Inspiring Smiles in Cumming, GA, we strongly suggest our patients maintain a regular dental exam, and professional cleaning, to keep their teeth healthy. Failure to do so, only make teeth more vulnerable to bacteria.

Why Should I Have a Professionally Applied Fluoride Treatment?

A fluoride application is one of the most efficient ways of preventing tooth decay in children and adults. Fluoride treatments are completely safe and effective. The fluoride acts as a shield for the outer enamel of the teeth and, in some cases, can even reverse early tooth decay.

Receiving a Fluoride Treatment from Our Dentist

At Inspiring Smiles, a fluoride treatment takes just a few minutes. After you have been given a professional cleaning, a topical fluoride is applied. Usually, a fluoride gel is placed in a tray shaped to fit your mouth. Then the doctor inserts the tray into the mouth for your teeth to “soak” in the solution for a few minutes. After a fluoride application, the doctor will recommend you not eat or drink for at least 30 minutes for your teeth to absorb the solution. A fluoride application can re-mineralize small deficiencies in the tooth enamel by attracting calcium to your teeth. It can make your teeth stronger! Years of research have proven fluoride to be a safe and effective way of fighting and preventing tooth decay. The doctor may suggest you use mouthwash or antibacterial rinse as an at-home fluoride treatment for added protection.

How to Choose the Right Fluoride Treatment for At-Home Use

When choosing an at-home fluoride product such as toothpaste or mouthwash, look for the American Dental Association's (ADA) seal of approval. The products marked with the ADA seal of approval have been carefully examined by the ADA and approved based on safety and its effectiveness.
